the weather has been... weird... this year. the summer didn't really feel like summer, and we've had heat waves in the winter.... bizarre! so it wasn't too surprising when i looked up to the sky today and say some of the oddest clouds i'd ever seen.
you know how you learn about the different types of clouds in science class in high school? well, i saw all those cloud types next to each other in the sky today. weird, but kinda beautiful.

this is another preview pic from my Thanksgiving.... (sorry, but it's about to get a bit crazier with the house remodeling. i'll do my best to keep up with my dailies!)
this is my friend's parents' new dog. she's tiny, but seems to think she's a pretty big dog. this stick was laying on the ground and became her best friend, even though it was almost as long as she is! i thought she was going to tip over as she ran down the street with the stick in her mouth. hahaha.

this is my idea list notebook... i don't know that i'd be able to survive without this notebook. it's the perfect size for fitting in my purse. it's big enough that i can write a lot on one page, but not so big that i feel the need to fold it. the pages are worn. it serves as my reminder of everything - from what groceries i need to buy, to what emails i want to send out, to photo and product ideas.
the only thing missing from this notebook? color! i think i'm going to start writing with markers more often :-)

things have been hectic lately. very hectic. so i decided to take myself on a date. i went to see a movie and LOVED the alone time! on the way back i needed to stop at the storage facility to grab some things, and the overgrown weeds on the empty field across the street from the storage facility were a beautiful complement to the late-day skies.

With my mom's closing only a few days away, we needed to properly celebrate! We decided to check out the Argentinean restaurant Puerto La Boca, in Little Italy. We went during lunch because their dinner menu is a bit pricey.

it was delicious! honestly, the best beef I've had in YEARS. probably the best since my last trip to Argentina :)
If you're a die-hard carnivore who appreciates a well cooked piece of meat - GO! and make sure you pile on the chimichurri.

My neighborhood has loads of hotels in it... so it was only a matter of time before some friends invited me to happy hour in a hotel bar. Imagine my surprise when I loved it! cheap pool tables, decent happy hour specials, barely any people for the first few hours, and then GREAT people-watching during the free salsa lessons.
I haven't been back there in a while.... I think I'll have to make it a point to get back to my regular bar schedule.

a friend sent me this random picture of a sea turtle that looks like it's having the time of its life! it just makes me chuckle, and to this day i keep it at my desk. it holds the spot directly in front of me, and anytime i'm stressed or in a funk i just look straight up to my wall and smile at my turtle.

my patio is cursed with poor drainage. i say cursed even though it has its moments that make me smile too. like this morning, when i noticed the mossy layer of green on the doormat in the patio. it's amazing the life that will appear seemingly out of nowhere when you just add a bit of water.

several days ago i went to visit my old friend, Panda Express. i have an old tradition of getting "non-fortunes" from Panda, meaning that I get the fortunes that say things like "People enjoy your company." or "Be kind to those you care about."
those, my friends, are not fortunes.
well my curse of the non-fortune has ended!!! i don't know yet if it was a fluke or if the tradition is indeed dead, but i had the pleasure of finally getting an honest-to-goodness fortune! it reads "A surprise treat awaits you."

my days are now a blur of estimates, product samples, and layout options. and to think, it's only just begun...
one of the things that I got to learn about is the exciting world of countertops. i love all parts of home remodels, but countertops were not exactly thrilling. here you see two lovely samples of dark engineered countertops. i believe both are quartz, but to be honest once i knew we weren't using them i immediately chose to forget all about them. they are pretty though, aren't they?!

I'm training myself to take naps. Let me explain. I've never been a nap person. I get groggy, sleepy and lazy, but I can rarely get myself to actually sleep during the day. Lately, though, I've been pretty overwhelmed with a lot going on in my life, so the idea of sitting in my car and taking a nap during lunch sounds heavenly!
I'm happy to report that I've officially taken my first lunchtime nap! I especially liked looking up and seeing the glimmer of the sun peeking between the tree leaves as they swayed in the breeze....

Here you go. This is (I believe) the only photo of myself that I have posted all year, and will most likely post through the remainder of the year. If you guessed Hamburglar for my costume... you win! I had lots of help from my mom, who lovingly took on the project once I told her what I wanted to be. And to think, it all started with a striped sweater and a friend's suggestion to be a "cat burglar". After that, the hamster wheel kept spinning until I talked myself into donning the hat, cape and tie.

It's now getting into the time of year when I get to see the sunset on my way home from work. This means I'll be taking the long way home more often, and stopping to stare at the ocean every chance I get :)
 This was the view from my car as I pulled to the side of the ride in one of my favorite parts of La Jolla. From this spot, I have a small little forest behind me across the street, but in this direction the trees clear the way for the gorgeous sun to set.

i haven't been feeling very creative lately.... probably because there are lots of things floating around in my mind these days to keep me stressed and busy. so i spaced out today and didn't take a photo, BUT i have a peace offering - a preview of tomorrow! 
this is a picture of an empty lot that will hopefully soon be where my sister and her family build their dream home. sadly, that means this lonely flower will lose its home, but at least i can sleep at night knowing that it's giving it up for a good cause :-)
