there's a tradition in Argentina that says you should eat gnocchi on the 29th of each month, and you have to put a dollar bill under your plate so that it brings you good fortune.
i'm still waiting to get rich, but i do love eating gnocchi every chance i get! since my mom's staying with me during her house hunt, she made some sweet potato gnocchi for my friends and i. they were SOOOO good!

i went to a dual birthday party today in the park. there's nothing like a park, a few beers, and some friends to spend a saturday afternoon!
our time at the park included some bocci ball. i was blue. (insert inappropriate joke here).
i discovered i really do suck at bocci ball, but i had a great time trying!

and my weekend of rest begins.... sorta. i took a trip downtown today that included a stroll through Seaport Village. there was a man there who rescues birds who are mistreated by their owners, and he nurses them back to health. they were beautiful!! these two colorful parrots were more than happy to strike a few poses for me :-)

tomorrow night i'm showing my photos in an event at Fluxx in downtown San Diego.... big night!!!! so, the important question tonight is - what color polish do i put on my toes and my fingernails??
(by the way, i used the nude color on my finger nails, and the pinkish red on my toes)

my brother popped up in San Diego this weekend, so we got together for a little catch-up session and some food. we went to a sushi place downtown that i'd never been to, but we all really enjoyed it. this is what he got, which was one hell of a sushi sampler! i couldn't resist taking a picture of it since it looked so pretty :-)

i've lived in san diego for 7 years now, and tonight was my first time visiting Filippi's in little italy! after years of visiting their market and wondering why the restaurant in the back was always so crowded, i finally got to see it for myself. the pizza was great! the garlic bread was awesome, too. and the atmosphere was totally great and worth the wait. we went early because i'd seen the crowds gather outside this place regularly, and sure enough when we left there was a line out the door and then some!
these jugs were hanging from the ceiling all over the place, as well as hanging down a couple of walls. next time, i'll have to ask about getting one up there for me :-)

tonight i met with a small group of friends to watch the movie Revenge of the Nerds in the outdoor pool area of a local hotel. it ROCKED! i'd forgotten how great that movie was, and to watch it outside with a beer in my hand was pretty awesome. i'll definitely be back there for other movies!

i have a mini project going on for an upcoming show i'm participating in (www.projectethos.com). i need to gather several letters from different places to form a few words. trust me, in my mind it looks amazing!  so this is the first letter i snapped a picture of. i got it off a license plate.... unfortunately, i probably won't use it because it's a capital case letter, and i really would like lower case. not to worry, i've gathered quite a few other letters since this one :-)

so i'm presenting my work at this wonderful event in a couple of weeks, and i need to figure out how i'm going to display my photos. since all i really know right now is that i have a 6'x7' black background to place the work on, i created my own full-size mock-up on my closet doors! thank goodness for construction paper and scotch tape :-)
